Issue 7 – The Quindecim, The Independent Student Newspaper of Goucher College

"The Quindecim, The Independent Student Newspaper of Goucher College - Issue 7 - December 10, 2010 - Front Page"

The Quindecim published its seventh issue of the year last Friday, completing an unprecedented semester for this publication.

Last week also happened to be the week before finals, so we were all swamped with essays, presentations, projects, and exams to prepare for. I’m not quire sure how we pulled this together by deadline time on top of all that, but we did. What’s more, the content is just as strong as any other issue we’ve put out this semester.

In fact, thinking back, it’s amazing that we got these newspapers out so regularly, given our busy schedules.

Hitting these deadlines cost me lots of lost sleep and added stress, but I wouldn’t give it up for anything. The lessons I’ve learned have been incredibly valuable, and it’s exciting to think about continuing next semester.

  1. It is another strong issue, Billie. You, Ben and the rest of the regulars who have put in long, long hours this fall to bring such credibility and relevance back to The Q should be really proud of yourselves. In fact, we should have some kind of small celebration. Oh wait, we would need some money (like $20 in a discretionary operating fund) to do that. It is a good thing we love what we do. I hope the Q staff has a great break, and to those Q staffer/Com majors still trying to get in my over-subscribed courses this spring, I am working on it. And I want to do everything I can to reward the unheralded service you folks provide the Goucher community with your work at The Q. I know what it is to be in a newsroom at 2 a.m. with nothing between you, a bunch of blank layout pages and a publisher’s deadline except your determination, intelligence, sense of responsibility and will.Z

    1. Thank you so much, Professor Zurawik! None of our success this semester would have been possible without your support, guidance, and brilliant ideas. We will have to have a celebration of some sort sometime next semester. Maybe by then we can scrounge up 20 whole dollars! Until then, we’ll continue to do what we do. Also, we truly appreciate your willingness to help out Q staff and COM majors with courses so much. I think the combination of the incredible COM courses we have and experiences like working on The Q can make for something really special here at Goucher.
