Boston Red Sox Photos: 2017 FENWAY PARK MAYOR’S WALK THROUGH.

Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh previewed the offseason improvements to Fenway Park during an annual pre-Opening Day tour of the ballpark led by Red Sox President Sam Kennedy, Red Sox Executive Vice President Jonathan Gilula, and with Red Sox Principal Owner John Henry and Red Sox Foundation Board Member Linda Henry. The visit highlighted the expansion of both the Home and Visitor’s dugouts, the addition of new seats between and outside the dugouts, a new bar and terraced seating area in Right Field, new day-of-game suites, an expanded virtual reality station that includes a batting cage experience, and a number of new concession offerings managed by Aramark, Fenway Park’s concessionaire.

Boston Red Sox Photos: Mookie Betts – A Day In The Life.

A few weeks ago, I spent the day following around Boston Red Sox right fielder, Mookie Betts, at Spring Training in Fort Myers, Florida. I met him at his house in the morning, and along with my friend Luke Fraser, a videographer for Red Sox Productions, we rode into JetBlue Park with him. Once we got to the park, we followed him around for most of the day, shooting his workout routine, pre game habits, actions during the game, and his cool down and exit after it.

Here is a link to the full photo story, text write up, and video from the day. The results are pretty neat.

There seems to be a trend for this type of storytelling with athletes right now. There’s a desire to see these athletes not just as larger than life players on a ball field, but as humans with personalities and day to day lives like the rest of us. I’ve made it one of my goals to do more storytelling this year, and I think this was a good trial run. I hope that I can build upon this piece to produce more content like this with the players throughout the season. The addition of video also brings the production value of stories like this up a notch, so I want to continue to work with the talented people and resources we have here at the Red Sox to do our best collaborative work together.

Boston Red Sox Multimedia: 2017 Sox Spring Player Promos.

The above videos are a series of promotional pieces I produced for the Boston Red Sox during their 2017 Spring Training campaign in Fort Myers, Florida. Each one is a 15-second mini-vignette highlighting a different player on the team. They’re made up of still photographs, video, timelapses, b-roll footage, and parallaxes. The b-roll video comes from the very talented team of shooters in the Red Sox video productions department. These were published across the Boston Red Sox official social media channels.

It was good to get back into the swing of editing video after a few weeks away from it. Working with multimedia allows you to package the content you produce in different ways, which is good for the creative soul.

Photos: Red Sox and jetBlue Distribute Over 40,000 Red Sox Hats To Boston Public Schools

As part of the club’s “Calling All Kids” effort to connect baseball to the next generation of fans, and to mark the extension of a partnership that began in 2009, the Red Sox and JetBlue today distributed over 40,000 Red Sox baseball hats to Boston Public School children and staff in 104 schools throughout the City of Boston.

The hat distribution was launched earlier today when Red Sox President Sam Kennedy, Red Sox Foundation Board Member Linda Henry, JetBlue Executive Vice President Martin St. George, and Boston Public Schools Superintendent Tommy Chang joined Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh at the West Zone Early Learning Center and Hennigan School in Jamaica Plain. The group handed out hats to students and surprised kids with a visit from Wally the Green Monster and his sister Tessie.

Here are a few images from the event. It feels good to be back home and in baseball mode again.

2017 BNP Paribas Open: Sunday, March 20, 2017.

Here are photos from championship Sunday at this year’s BNP Paribas Open. This was the 5th time I’ve shot this tournament. That’s hard to believe. Shooting around the grounds in the 90 plus degree heat has become second nature to me by this point, but with familiarity comes the challenge of making what you shoot look unique and different from years past. It’s a good challenge every year, and this go around was just that – a good challenge.

It’s not just a challenge creatively, either. 15-plus hour days in the desert sun with no days off is really difficult to do. By the end of this tournament, I was completely spent, both physically and mentally. Luckily, I think pacing is something you learn as you get older. I feel like I’ve gotten a little better at this over the years, at least.

While the tennis is always amazing in Indian Wells, what keeps me coming back year after year are the people I work with. I’m so lucky to be included each year as part of an incredibly talented, hard working, fun group of photographers, editors, writers, videographers, and social media gurus. Having a team of people like this around you pushes you to be better, and it’s amazing to see ideas and concepts come to life through the collaboration among us. Thanks again to everyone on the team – you know who you are!

After a month in Florida for Spring Training, followed immediately by 10 days at this tournament, I’m back in Boston and catching up on rest. But not too much rest. Opening Day is in 11 days!

I’m late catching up on tennis from Friday. Here are some photos from a busy day.

2017 BNP Paribas Open: Thursday, March 16, 2017.

Here are a few from yesterday. It was a slow day relatively, so I don’t have too much to show from it, but here are a few frames.

2017 BNP Paribas Open: Wednesday, March 15, 2017.

Yesterday was another full day of tennis in Indian Wells. Roger Federer wiped Rafael Nadal off the court. It’s always a fun match up to shoot.

2017 BNP Paribas Open: Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

Another big day of tennis yesterday. Here are a few favorites from the day.
