Photos: Big Air At Fenway Park.

Who would have thought we would ever have Big Air ski and snowboard jumping out in center field at Fenway Park? I’ve never shot anything like this before, so I had no idea how they were going to pull this off.

But the event was flawless, and really exciting visually. The obvious goal as a photographer covering an event like this is to show the athletes within the context of the location they’re in – a baseball stadium in downtown Boston. I talk a little bit about that in this very generous write-up on Boston.com in reference to the daytime Citgo sign photo above.

It was a very long, very cold week, but I tried to spend as much time on and around the ramp shooting as I possibly could while the skiers and snowboarders were jumping. I figured the more I was out there, the more things I could try.

A nice opportunity to make some different images to add to the portfolio. Congratulations to everyone involved in making this such a fantastic event. Hard work pays off!

Photos: Big Air At Fenway Ramp Construction.

There is a 140-foot high ski and snowboard ramp in centerfield at Fenway Park. This is insane!

It’s been awesome documenting progress on the Polartec Big Air at Fenway Park ramp over the past few weeks here. It’s fascinating to see the construction crew work on this thing. I don’t know how they do it.

Visually, it’s proven interesting to shoot, even after shooting pictures literally every day since the build began. By this point, I think I’ve become one with the ramp. I’ve tried to show that construction can be beautiful if you look at it the right way.

Stay tuned for more pictures once the athletes start jumping off! I can’t wait to shoot.

Photos: Big Air Ski & Snowboard Coming To Fenway Park.

We’re really lucky that the Boston Red Sox and Fenway Sports Group organizations are dedicated to utilizing Fenway Park as a venue for great events year round, both baseball and non-baseball related.

This winter, we’ll have several exciting non-baseball events to shoot, and last week, the team announced that extreme skiing and snowboarding would be one of them. Fenway will play host to a Big Air ski and snowboard jump competition. “Big Air At Fenway” will feature a 140-foot high ramp, which is taller than the light towers on top of the Green Monster in left field.

It’s tough to picture it coming together on top of a baseball field, but I’m really excited to shoot this event in February. Here are a few quick photos from the press conference announcement.
