Torno A Surriento.

Great to return to southern Italy after not having been for five years. Sorrento is the place where I spent my summers as a boy, so it was really nice to come back and see old friends and take it all in with fresh eyes.

Here’s a few that I liked.

Now, it’s time to get back in baseball gear! Lots of new work to come from Fenway Park this week!

A bit of Boston.

"Pedestrians walk across Kenmore Square in Boston, Massachusetts Wednesday, April 4, 2012."

"A sailing race takes place on the Charles River in Boston, Massachusetts Wednesday, April 4, 2012."

I had some downtime on Wednesday, so I did a bit of exploring throughout my new city. It was a beautiful early April day, so I brought my camera along with me.

I found some nice spots, and I’m quickly learning my way through Boston. It’s definitely a photogenic city, which is great for me!

22 on 22.

"Rain falls in Lutherville, Maryland Tuesday, November 22, 2011."

I didn’t get the beautiful fall weather that I got on my birthday last year. In fact, it’s been pouring all day. It’s still been a wonderful day, though, and a great 22 years!

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

US Open Photography: Around the Grounds

"Fans observe the grounds from the top of Louis Armstrong Stadium at the US Open Saturday, September 3, 2011."

"Birds fly above the lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium at the start of the night session at the US Open Saturday, September 3, 2011."

Here’s a few more “Around the Grounds” shots that I was assigned to. I’ve been really drawn to shadow and silhouettes so far, likely because I’m on call to shoot as the sun is setting.

If you’d like, you can check out my second and third galleries full of US Open scenery here and here.

Although I’m an editor, I’ve been assigned to shoot several galleries for usopen.org as well. These are usually “Around the Grounds” themed galleries, which give viewers something else to look at besides the players.

Here are a few from my first gallery, which is the one I’m most proud of so far. It’s organized as a walking tour of the grounds, beginning at the entrance and progressing to the tennis action on court. You can check out the full gallery here!

Baseball, Baltimore, and a beautiful August day.

"Guests of a field day event sponsored by Bank of America gather in the visitor's dugout of Oriole Park at Camden Yards Monday, August 22, 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland."

"A city skyline is shown behind the bullpen picnic area of Oriole Park at Camden Yards Monday, August 22, 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland."

"World Series championship flags wave above the upper deck of Oriole Park at Camden Yards Monday, August 22, 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland."

"Sun shines behind Oriole Park at Camden Yards Monday, August 22, 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland."

Today I had to walk around the ballpark to shoot photographs of some of the various party venues for publication on the Orioles’ ticketing website.

It was pretty mundane work until I got to the press box. I stepped outside to find an absolutely incredible Monday afternoon. Perfect temperature. Perfect breeze. Perfect sky.

So, as I made my rounds, I stopped to take some shots of the stadium and the cityscape from different areas. These are a few from what turned out to be a nice series of images. For some reason, through all these years of coming to games here, I never stopped and actually observed the views the stadium offers. Some of them are incredible, especially on a day like today.

Baltimore Orioles Photography: Saturday, August 6, 2011 vs. Toronto Blue Jays

"Baltimore Orioles usher Henry Wancowicz stands on the field at Oriole Park at Camden Yards during a rain delay before the start of a baseball game Saturday, August 6, 2011 in Baltimore."

"Rain falls as Baltimore Orioles second baseman Robert Andino bats in the eighth inning of a baseball game against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, August 6, 2011 in Baltimore."

Let’s face it: Wins feel much better than losses. After being on the wrong end of a perfect game through five innings, Adam Jones was able to lift the Orioles to a come from behind win. I had a lot of fun shooting this game, not just because of the win, but because of the weather.

Saturday was the first game I’ve been at this season to be delayed by rain, and as you can see, it was quite a storm. As the rain came down, I sat in the Orioles’ dugout, ate sunflower seeds, watched Bugs Bunny cartoons on the scoreboard, and took pictures of the rain – not a bad job I have.

The rain continued off an on throughout the game, so I played around with some different shutter speeds as I sat there in the pit, completely soaked.

This game’s “Thing I Learned:” I should have brought the rain gear out for the cameras.

July 4th in Baltimore

"Spectators view fireworks over Baltimore Country Club's golf course in Lutherville, Maryland Sunday, July 3, 2011."

Here’s a cliché picture of fireworks. These weren’t quite as grand as the ones I shot last year in Boston.

This was taken on a makeshift tripod composed of a purse, two flip flops, and a wallet. I was feeling too lazy to walk around with my real tripod.

Happy 4th of July!

The Desert.

“A late night sky rolls across the desert landscape in Arad, Israel Wednesday, January 5, 2011.”
“The early morning sun greets a Bedouin tent and surrounding mountains in Arad, Israel Thursday, January 6, 2011.”

For me, people make Israel such a special place, not the land. That’s saying something about the people, because the landscapes throughout the country are epic and inspiring.

The country is the size of New Jersey, yet one can travel from sea to desert to mountains in hours.

The two hour drive to this Bedouin tent had infinite opportunities for photographs, yet I didn’t take a single one. I just wanted to take it all in, and it remains a bus ride I’ll never forget.

Thanks to my new friend Matt for scouting the location for the night shot. The late night and early morning light in the middle of the desert was perfect, so I had to document it. In between these two moments was a night of singing, laughing, and lots of food.
