Before returning to to Arizona for the offseason, Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo stopped by Fenway Park to to catch up with the Red Sox content crew and pose for some portraits around the ballpark. Here’s my set of images, as well as a behind the scenes video I helped produce.
Nice to have some better weather here at the end of November! Here’s my take from this weekend’s game at an empty Gillette Stadium between the New England Patriots and the Arizona Cardinals. I shot this game for Getty Images. Tough to make pictures from way back in the stands, but we push on in 2020.
Conditions were very poor at Gillette Stadium last weekend for Sunday Night Football between the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots. Monsoon-like rain and winds on top of the restrictions on access due to Covid safety protocols made for a very challenging night of shooting. I tried to make the best of it and make pictures to encapsulate the chaos of the game and weather. This was the worst rain I’ve ever shot in.
Yesterday, in a strange twist of events, it snowed for the first time in 2020. This is the first time I can remember the trees being in full autumn color as snow fell. The weirdness continues. Here are some beauties from a peaceful day at the park.
Another day back out at Boston College. This time, I was shooting for the visitors in Georgia Tech. It turned out to be a tough game for the Yellow Jackets, but it was still fun to be there and nice to have on-field access during these Covid times. A big thanks to the Georgia Tech Athletics Department for having me out!
The wild word of Covid sports continues. I got my first look at the NFL in this new time last weekend for a game at Gillette Stadium between the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos. The state of things couldn’t be more different from what I’m used to covering over the years out there. No Tom, no fans, and basically no access. But, I tried to make the best of what we were given, and here are some results taken for Getty Images.
Above are a looping video and still images I shot for a recent story on the new safety rules governing high school soccer amid the coronavirus pandemic. These visuals accompanied a written story in The New York Times.
This was an interesting story to work on as the sport looks nothing like what we’re used to. Physical contact, slide tackles, headers, and throw-ins are now all considered penalties, so shooting the game took a different approach to illustrate those restrictions. I achieved the video clip of a goal being scored by clamping a remote camera to the top of the goal and hoping for the best.
Here is a link to the full story online, written by reporter Andrew Keh. A big thanks to the picture desk at the Times for having me shoot the story. It felt good to be shoot an assignment for the first time since college.
Here is a selection of student portraits shot for The Tufts Gordon Institute at Tufts University. The institute was looking for individual portraits of the students in this year’s MS and Innovation Management Program. This was the third year we’ve worked on this project together.
We decided upon a simple three light high-key set up for a classic, seamless look on a white backdrop. All of the students were fantastic to work with, and weren’t afraid to let their personalities show through in front of the camera. Above are some of my favorites from the two days of shooting.
Many thanks to Tufts University for having me on board!
I was back at Boston College to shoot another year of portraits of their 2020 Men’s and Women’s basketball teams. These two looks were shot simultaneously on two separate lighting setups with six lights used in total. The clean white look offers a simple portrait that can stand alone as an image or be used for graphic cutouts, and the maroon and gold setups provide a secondary creative option.
A huge thanks to BC athletics for having me shoot these!
Earlier this year, I was commissioned to shoot portraits of Boston Celtics point guard Kemba Walker for advertising and point of sale usage for BODYARMOR Sports Drink. The entire shoot was produced in one day, all working under strict COVID-19 safety protocols. A big thank you to BODYARMOR for having me on board, and to Kemba for being so great to work with.
Above is the final set of images and social GIFs from the shoot.
