Photos: Boston Red Sox Holiday Caravan.

Last week, The Boston Red Sox visited local hospitals, schools, and community centers as part of their annual Holiday Caravan. This year, Red Sox infielder Deven Marrero, and pitchers Robby Scott and Heath Hembree joined the Caravan, which stopped at Codman Academy School in Dorchester, Massachusetts General Hospital, Shriners Hospital For Children, The Jimmy Fund, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, and The BASE.

This is always a great showing of community outreach from the players and organization. Here are a few photos from the two day event.

I got to follow Boston Red Sox catcher David Ross as he visited young patients at the Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston yesterday.

David was absolutely great with the kids, and it’s always refreshing to see these types of interactions. The team isn’t playing well right now, but seeing some of the real problems some of these young people are dealing with puts things into perspective.

These were a few moments I liked.

There was a lot going on here at Fenway Park last night before the second of a three game series between the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles.

As August nears an end, so does Jimmy Fund month sponsored by the Red Sox. Along with WEEI Radio and the New England Sports Network (NESN), the Red Sox raised over $3 million dollars for cancer research in just two days via the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon. As is routine, some of the Red Sox player wives got on the phones yesterday to make calls and accept donations.

In addition, the team honored Sean Collier, the MIT Police Officer killed during the attacks of the Boston Marathon, by inviting members of his family to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Collier was a regular donor to the Jimmy Fund.

These are a mix of photos from those two events.

In light of the Boston Red Sox recognizing the month of August as ‘Jimmy Fund Month,’ I was asked by the team’s marketing department to put together a photo slideshow highlighting Red Sox partnership with The Jimmy Fund over the past 60 years.

It’s a basic slideshow, but it’s neat to see how extensive this relationship has been over the years. It’s also a nice collaboration of lots of different photographers to have shot for the Sox through the decades.

Here is a link to the slideshow on redsox.com. It will also be played on NESN and WEEI during the upcoming Jimmy Fund radio-telethon on August 27th and 28th.

Additional thanks to Sarah Coffin of the Red Sox archives for digging up lots of these older photos.

Here are a few photos from several Boston Red Sox visits to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund Clinic in Boston yesterday. The first visit was by newly acquired Red Sox closer, Joel Hanrahan, and the second was by a group of top Red Sox rookie prospects, including Xander Bogaerts of Aruba and Alex Hassan of nearby Milton, Massachusetts.
