Motion GIFs: Boston Red Sox Spring Training

Here are some motion GIFs I created during Boston Red Sox spring training. The looping polaroid portraits are a combination of video clips and still images, and the burst GIFs are comprised entirely of still images. I am looking to incorporate more motion into my work this season.

Here’s a recent portrait shoot of Boston Red Sox infielder Michael Chavis for New Balance and New Balance Baseball.

Stills: 2021 Grapefruit League Games Begin.

Here’s my look at the first action of the 2021 Major League Baseball season. Amid the pandemic, the scenery is different, but the goal remains the same – document it all in a creative and impactful way.

I’m back at it for the start of another Spring Training for the Boston Red Sox. Despite the unusual conditions as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, I am doing my best to deliver great imagery day by day.

Photos: Some Good News, Red Sox Surprise Healthcare Workers.

For the most recent episode of new YouTube show “Some Good News,” actor and Massachusetts native John Krasinski partnered with the Boston Red Sox to deliver the surprise of a life time to healthcare workers in Boston.

Krasinski surprised medical staff of a COVID-19 unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with a video message from Red Sox legend David Ortiz and four free Red Sox tickets for life.

The staffers then got to ride on a specially commissioned Duck Boat to an empty Fenway Park, where they threw out a ceremonial first pitch, ran the bases, posed for pictures, and received special scoreboard video messages from Red Sox players, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, and Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker.

The episode of “Some Good News” is embedded above, and a gallery of photos from the special trip to Fenway Park is below. It was a surreal experience to be inside the ballpark to shoot this. Proud of our Red Sox crew for always stepping up to the challenge and delivering the content when it’s needed.

Magazine Cover: Xander Bogaerts And Rafael Devers.

Here’s a new cover image shot for Red Sox Magazine of shortstop Xander Bogaerts and third baseman Rafael Devers. I shot this portrait several weeks ago in the grounds crew warehouse at jetBlue Park in Fort Myers toward the end of Spring Training.

This portrait involved a three light set up – a main light in front with a six foot parabolic umbrella and two rim strobes with gridded strip boxes flanking the players from behind. We put some dirt on the floor to accentuate the gritty look, and topped it off with a few seconds of smoke from a machine. I’m happy with the results! A big thanks to the Fenway South grounds crew for their help in getting the space primed to shoot in, and thanks to Xander and Raffy for their time.

Took a little road trip yesterday to good old North Port for the Sox game against the Atlanta Braves yesterday. Refreshing to get a different look at a different ballpark. Here are a few.
